I spent quite a bit of time with Mark back in the 1990's and early 2000's. When he started his game ranch, Show-Me Safari's, I was the first person to hunt it. I was writing for Gun Week then and Mark put together quite a few hunts for me there. He was always pleasant to be around and I enjoyed his company.
And he died while he was hunting! If it's your time, that's not a bad way to go.

Obituary: Mark Hampton
It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Mark Hampton. Mark suffered a heart attack while on a hunting trip in Tanzania on Sunday morning, June 23.
Mark was a Life Member of Safari Club International, where he served with distinction as Record Book Committee Co-Chairman, Asia Subchair, and Record Book Handgun Consultant. His contributions to the organization and the hunting community were invaluable.
Mark's dedication, leadership, mentorship, and selflessness will be greatly missed. We ask that you keep Mark’s wife, Karen, in your prayers during this most difficult time. More information regarding services will be forthcoming.
Mark Hampton's legacy of dedication and passion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
BEEN A TOUGH MONTH.

Losing my sister and to fellow friend writers, Mike V. And Mark. Way back when on a New Year's Eve Jack Pender and I were hunting hogs at Mark's place. Jack was on a hill way above me but I can see him walking. Then he went down so I hurried up there to see what was going on hoping for only the best. He had gotten tangled up in some brush and it tripped him up and he was laying on the ground and he looked up at me and said "Taffin don't you dare try to get me out!"
I remember that hunt!

I never got to meet him but enjoyed his adventures. I think I read a spot or two where he mentioned Gary Reeder in a kind fashion. His writing always seemed to have a positive note, friendly. God bless his family.
He knew he wasn't the only handgunner

and he mentioned us several times thru the years. At the recent SCI show in Nashville Larry Farley and I were checking out the new guns. I had stopped to say hi to Bob Baker, another fine handgunner. As we turned to walk away Mark almost jumped over the counter to say hi. We stopped and spent a while with Mark. I don't see how anyone could say anything bad about Mark. He was the perfect gentleman. I held off saying anything on here about Mark. It just seems like Death is everywhere we look. I pray Mark's wife is ok and can come thru this.
With John Linebaugh, Venturino, now Mark leaving us along with Colleen's younger brother a couple of days ago maybe this is a sign that we should spend more time with those that mean something to us and not take them for granted.
