Some of my buds are starting to consider the new Ark.

hunting season rules. Our state has jumped on the band-wagon to allow "straight wall" cartridge guns for the traditional muzzleloading season. Lever guns will rule and prices of them locally will skyrocket for .357, .41, .44, .444, .45 and .45-70. Single shots too.

*Looks tailor made for handguns and revolvers! One wise elbow asked me about a rifled 12 bore with all brass case! There is always one in a crowd. If it don't feel right don't try it. Arguing with a lawman over a firearm being a "shotgun" or not. Not me!

Several guys have asked me about "converting" or making their AR platform guns useful for this purpose. Many are looking at the .350 Legend or .450 Bushmaster in particular. The rules do not clarify what "converting from Semi" actually means. It's up to the mood of the particular cocky game officer is feeling that day.

I was thinking of gas blocks that can be turned off etc. Most systems are in minority and that drives the component prices up. You can mod or install a gas tube upside down. Some cut off a section and spin upside down, re-pin. But if it failed a gas torch would blast back at you, perhaps shooting that little piece of tube! I thought an idea might be to simply see what you have laying around. I have a .350 AR and a 9mm AR that uses Glock mags. I figured to drop the .350 top on the 9mm AR bottom (actually uses an ounce or two heavier buffer FWIW). This would effectively "convert" the weapon to self ejecting single shot. Inserting an empty Glock mag would hold the bolt open after a shot. You could drop in a round and smack the bolt release. Not super handy but it beats loading a smoke pole and no money spent. You took two guns and made one that is "legal" for this specific use.

Just wanted to see different views.

We have several custom cartridges based on the 30-30 case

but the only one that would be legal in Ark is our 400 GNR, the 30-30 necked up to 10mm or 40 caliber. One in jacketed and one in lead.

The .475 GNR also. .45-70 straight to .475.

As long as thr shotgun was smooth bore it was OK. Don't understand that. Also said a Kali key in AR was ok. Like Gary says my words and 15$ will buy you a cup of shitty coffee at Starbucks.

The 400 GNR should work very nicely on the deer and bear
