have some fun. I turned them all loose in the chicken coup. I expected it to be a frenzy. Those stupid chickens! The crickets hopped around and crawled all over the chickens. They didn't eat them. Go figure. Maybe it was due to the time, they were on the roost.
Conversely... I had a pet Hog-nose snake several years that ate toads I captured. Trying to keep captured toads was a chore to spread out the snake's nutrition over an entire season. I fed them meal worms. My goodness toads are voracious! They play for keeps too. You'd not want to be around a 3' long toad! He'd eat you in a second. They align up on a quarry, raise their back end slightly, close their eyes, and strike with their sticky, griping, tongue. Remember that if you ever face down a 500 lb. toad.
