Our squirrel season is finally here and I am trying to find

time to get out and shoot some tree rats. Recently while getting ready for squirrel season I dragged a few of my collection of vintage 22 LR rifles out and did some shooting.
A couple of my favorite 22 rifles are actually made by High Standard but sold by Sears in the '60 and early '70s under the J.C. Higgins name. The guns were high quality and were man size guns, not the little pocket size 22 rifles we see today. Here is one of the original ads from the early 60s.

There were 4 models of pretty much the same gun, just a few small improvements separated them from one another.

I have the model 29, 30 and 31. And shot 2 of them for squirrel season. Here is both of the guns I shot for accuracy.The model 31 is almost untouched and is worth a bit to collectors so I left it in the safe.

Not bad for 60 year old rifles. Both guns were shot using Remington 22 LR ammo, nothing special.
