Lewis or Clark, one of them supposedly got pretty fond of dog meat on the expedition. The other not so much.

Capstick helped to get re-published, forget which one. Had a story about a native coming to join a Safari about 6 days out in the bush, but he had one of his wives with him. They sent him away saying a woman along was bad ju-ju. He left to return just a couple days later saying he took his woman back to the hut and wanted to offer a peace offering of an antelope he had speared to garner a work position. They accepted him in. Everyone feasted on some stewed antelope that night. Later it was revealed that the antelope was actually the young tender wife! The white hunter chronicled that it was actually tasty, he couldn't tell it much from antelope. Not much you could do after the fact! So you know.

I'm not sure who to be mad at, the man or publishing house who HAD to know full well about the plagiarized stories. But in truth he did re-heighten awareness and zeal for the African hunting industry, there is no denying that. Maybe even a boost for SCI.

But later on the publishers hired him to add some editorial notes to actual republished classics. He did not modify the original works, just added some very good editorial notations for clarity. I collected the entire set! Took me several years to find them all. Some of those guys lived larger than life and had grand adventures, but were crap writers. Maybe it was some of the translations, from say Hungarian, into King's English that lost something. I love T.E. Lawrence's "Seven Pillars of Wisdom" but it is some of the most non de-script and boring writing in places. Were it not for some of the Capstick/Petersen edited classics that were related I'd not have a good insight. A book of note, about T.E. Lawrence's good friend barely mentioned, "Warrior:The Legend of Colonel Richard Meinertzhagen", boy that fellow was the real deal and a hot pistol!

I really felt betrayed when I finally learned the truth, and understand the violating sin of plagiarism, thanks to PHC. But whomever added and wove the yarns he claimed, was a true stellar talent. To go back before I knew, that was a blissful happy memory.

his years as a Green Beret helped making him such a great hunter. He wrote it a couple of years before his death. As far as this and who wrote the edited version of the stories a friend at SCI told me one year when we had a booth there, that Capstick's wife did the editing. Who knows.

I bought one and it was ok, but I’d not recommend it. Historically interesting. I like biography’s, no time for fiction.
