Last year I had a bit of trouble with my 20 bore 1100 standard with full choke. It was all me, not able get on the clay fast. I'm mindful to tote a 12 this year. I wanted a modified choke on the line last year.

I no longer have any fancy shotguns. I do have my Mossberg 500 turkey gun with chokes. A 1100 12 riot cylinder bore (I could get a barrel for it) and a 870 12 ga. custom with screw chokes. Those would be more in the hunt than my others. I'm not above just buying a used O/U just for it! I know where a slick SKB is. You only use one chamber though, the tighter choke. The 870 has a crazy hunter orange (less lethal?!) Mag-pul stock. But I'm very familiar with it and it fits me well. It's just crazy looking and particularly ugly.

here is the old indian trick they wont tell you. control your distance with your shells. pick a choke for the shotgun at about Imp Mod, 21 to 25 thousands, 5/8 if your British. Just make sure the gun fits you and your looking down the barrel constantly.
1 oz No 8 shot for out to 40 yds, targets that show you some face, go to No 7 1/2 for edge on targets or out to 50 yds, increase speed for more distance, I was breaking targets at 60 yds with 1 oz of 7 1/2 shot travling at 1300. You can increase both distance and effect by using larger shot and or plated shot. remember the most important 6 inches is between your ears

It's just an afternoon event. But it's something to plan on and look forward to. I only want to perform to a self satisfactory level, beat my performance last year. All sorts of guns show up to the event. About 200-300 show. They (Remington) provides the ammo, no clue as to what it is. 3/4 oz 20 or 1 oz 12 #8 I figure, the cheap target stuff. Maybe left over dove loads.

Your note on fit says it all. It's so important in shotgunning (and others too). I have trouble getting a good cheek weld, getting my head down. Being grossly cross-eye dominant does not help at all. A nice tall rib is great. I find my sporting guns lack this.

I found some good deals on used shotguns. A good OU with lots of $$$ spend ton an an adj. stock, chokes etc. Only $1k, and I know it cost over double that. I could trade around and get a sporting gun to keep around. Use for trap and clays. A high rib adj. stock rig that really, really fits me. Thank for urging me to steer clear on the old 3200's. I think more trouble than worth. Remington never made a good OU or semi auto pistol, ever. I might just take one of my good fitting beaters or might trade some, make it fun. I'm out exactly zero and usually make a small profit, done right.

I'd about kill to shoot some trap with you and collect some pointers. Good shotgunning mentors are getting scarce. Thanks again.

I'm needing to pattern my 20 1100 FC to see what it's doing. Is is me or too tight a choke. Some Remington bores were even off a little. My 870 would do for this event but boy is it ugly with it's 23" Turkey barrel.

Later I'll get me an all round O/U gun for Skeet/Clays/Trap, and some light hunting. I still like that SKB and the guy is wanting to deal, but they say it is bulky and heavy, too focused. Lots of nice Beretta 685's out there too. The Mikoru guns are all over and the last Citori I had I traded to Gary. I did some good shooting with it, a 26" IC/M Skeet model with big forend.

noted shotgun shooter won his first event with a Mikoru trap gun choked full and full. It was an international skeet tourney. What you dont know cant hurt you LOL. He shoot's full and full chokes still today

The standard chassis 1100 20 is a very good firearm. Barrels can be way more than I paid for the whole rig. I finally got a vent rib barrel but it was full choke. I’ve never shot 20 gauge very much but really wanted modified choke. Of course I can rent the tools and open it up the 0.009-0.010” to make it so. It’s not expensive.

My Mossberg 500 has a “lead only” extra full turkey choke. If you don’t point it correctly you could easily miss a soda can stationary on a fence post at 20 yds.!

sporting clays model 425 in 20 guage. It of course has screw in chokes but they are both extended length Kicks at 25 thou, giving the 28 in barrels the weight and swing of 30 in
