I traded for a 8-3/8" blue in the wood box, it was like new but used and $325. Papers, tools, and all. I never could get it to shoot to my satisfaction though. I was leery of hopping up ammo too much too, the Ruger loads were said to be too warm for it back then. I think it would handle them if you didn't get too silly. A hunting gun doesn't get as pounded as much as a target gun anyway. For a non-tapered N-frame it is very light and lively as it has such a BIG hole bored through the cylinders and barrel! A 255 gr. around 1000 fps will fix a lot of problems.
Lots of early 1980's Cops liked the 4" for a showy duty gun. Those who could carry what they wanted. Factory ammo was a bit limited back then but Federal made some nice Nycad SWCHP. Sort of an early version of what we now call paint coated lead bullets.
