Besides Bears, I have terrible claustrophobia

So I spent an hour in the MRI machine last night for a check up. Oh my! I modified my old shotgun with all sorts of adornments, tossed around attributes of half dozen different O/U that I’m mulling over. Finally talked myself (almost) out of going in debt to buy that 624 4” I saw. Maybe someone will snatch it while I procrastinate. I have a custom 5” in the works that splits the difference with its unique length. I was transitioning to cast bullets and some new powders, then they pulled me out!

Praise Jesus! Even though they give you the little squeeze bulb for emergency alert, it’s not nearly adequate. I want an ejection system that shoots me out instantly like a torpedo from a Russian sub! That might help, a little.

I take Valium

give me a run normal, then another with something in the IV that can make me crap the machine! All the while with all that banging and hammering sounds and I know if I open my eyes my heart will literally explode. With Jesus' help and heavily task loading my little brain I can make it through this silly, simple procedure. Personally though, I can about endure surgery better. lol I dislike the MRI process.

I have claustrophobia, real bad but have had so many MRI

on his front porch drinking a cup of coffee. A while back a few miles south of here had a strange experience. An older gentleman was sitting on his front porch drinking a cup of coffee when a black bear came out of the woods near his house, ran up on the porch, grabbed the fellow and dragged him into the bushes for dinner. The next door neighbor hearing all the screams grabbed his rifle from beside the front door and shot at the bear. Not sure if he hit it or not but either way it was way too late.
A few days after that another black bear was seen walking down the street of that town, looking for lunch I assume.
Here locally, in fact about halfway up the mountain that is seen in my pictures I show from time to time.

I was checking out the area for bears as the season was coming in a couple of weeks. In the 2 days I was scouting I saw 13 bears including 4 small yearling bears. Our water holes were mostly dried up at that time and I was scouting near the water holes that were on that mountain.
What this gets to is there are a lot of bears around here. After the bear killed and partially ate the older fellow everyone was thinking about bears. My drive way is 65 yards long and going out to check the mail in the dark, I carried at least one handgun, just in case. Then 2 years back Colleen hit a black bear on her way home. It was dark and the bear decided to cross the road just as Colleen was driving home. She smacked him a good one doing about $20,000 damage to her truck and banging up the bear a bit. She called me as I was within about 3 minutes of where she hit the bear. When I got there the bear was dazed, still walking around beside Colleen's truck. I walked up within about 10 feet of him and shot him 3 times with my 45 with JHP rounds, doing no damage to the bear. The Hiway Patrol had been called and drove up while this was going on and the patrolman asked if he could shoot the bear. I told him to go ahead as my jacketed hollow point 45 ACPs did no damage to Mr. Bear. The officer got his M-16 or AR-15, whatever they are issued and shot the bear in the head.

We checked the bear and found none of my 3 shots went more than 2 inches into the bear, the jacketed hollow points failing totally. Since then I carry no JHPs in any of my handguns. Strictly FMJs from now on.

My rambling here is just for WB to think about if he goes out in the dark.

I carry short barrel .45 ACP, 3-4”

So 230 cast or FMJ serve me best. Even in 9mm I like 147 gr. In that cal the 147 JHP seem very deep penetrating. I hear the .357 SIG is a fantastic if over penetrating round. I have a conversion barrel for my G23/19 that I need to carry. Close to a genuine 1400 fps. I figure.

I've coon fingerd a used Kahr Cw 45 at LGS..

and cleaned it up ... shot it for awhile and then gave it to a friend who needed a carry gun. I don't personally want a striker-fired pistol but of the ones I've shot, the Kahr has the best trigger.

function fine with military spec. old school type 1911 mags. The late versions will not work, just the old WWII type. The CW is just as good a gun. The sights are in dovetails, and it's shaped a little different in the slide, the barrel is by Walther, polygonal rifled. CW's have normal Ballard type rifling with is better for lead bullets, it fills the bore more completely.

I also carry a G30s and a G23/19/33 (they all are the same gun basically except for the barrel - I have all to swap .40, 9, .357) but the 30/19 are the same size. The PM is about an inch thick and notably easier to carry and shoot for a defense rig. It's not going to get accidentally fired by a wad of t-shirt in a holster. The factory mag holds only (5) so with a chambered round it's a 6-shot. My backup G.I. Colt mag holds 8! The G30s is a 10+1 but fat as a G19.

Either loaded with 230 gr. are a proven round for man or beast.

You cleaned that one up good!

doesn't make the loud banging and stuff like the old ones I suffered thru. The new ones use music. They ask me what music did I like and I tell them rock & roll. Invariably their version of rock music was stuff from the late'50s or so, most more into 50s country than rock but it is only an hour or so, so no big deal.
On one of them a while back they interrupted the music to talk to me telling me I had fallen asleep and my snoring was messing with the machine.
Mine, like was mentioned above was about an hour then they pull me out and gave me an ejection of some goop and ran me thru it again. The whole procedure was maybe an hour and 20 minutes, give or take. No big deal.

Once the county cops woke me to tell me my horse

Was out and in the neighbors front yard. I was gonna walk but they offered me a ride in the back of the cruiser. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever fathom that Cop cars have NO door handles in the back. I was in a locked cage! Fighting a horrific wave of panic I was so glad to arrive and be let out. If I was ever literally jailed I’d be dead from horror for certain!

So cave bears are definitely out!

We were once Scuba diving at night…

I was point navigator. We planned to drop to about 25-30’ level off and follow my compass heading about 100 yds to a bluff wall. If all things I bullseyed (visibility about 8-10 ft) a small overhang cave entrance in the bluff. Suddenly I was pressed up against a wall that popped into view. 5 other divers piled up on my back between me and out! I remember the silver mercury looking bubbles on the rock ceiling. That’s the only time I’ve ever had a “wig out” under water. But at night, in a cave, totally unexpected. I felt validated! Lol
