He looked it over today. I think he is a southpaw as well. He seemed pleased with the simplicity. I think it calmed him as he instantly could understand it's workings. It has only an action button, much like the H&R, and a hammer. An addition is a safety inconveniently, by design, located on the left flat of the action.
Like I mentioned it has a nice fresh recoil pad but is listed at only 5-1/2 lbs. Hopefully he can endure (50) 1 oz. shots through it. It was a gift to my youngest son. It also was provided with a fitted .243 Winchester barrel fitted with iron sights and a scope. Not fancy but a serviceable camp gun. Just keep Jim Taylor clear of it with his hacksaw. LOL!
