Reeder Custom Guns - Interesting CCW trend...

There have been some good guns brought out the last few years. The 9mm has established itself as a standard due to projectiles that actually do perform as designed, and good .38 Spec. +P performance (light .357). Low recoil and good capacity as well, not to mention military use. The SIG 365 is a class leader as well as the little Springfield marketed gun and Glock 43/48.

The 365 continues to evolve and is a very nice platform. My wife chose a 365x completely on her own. it's just the right size and has a great trigger, maybe too good! Personally I think a SIG anything (and I own several) in the hands of Joe Average or a dumb-ass is dangerous. It would be an easy thing to get a shirttail of finger (!) in that triggerguard while holstering or forbid, stuffing it in the back of their jeans. BANG! They have extended slide and magazine models, optic ready slides now. I noted Kahr (a underdog brand I keep an eye on) has developed a X series with a double stack mag. Finally! It's tiny, slightly smaller than a 365 but still in that class. Weight is only 18 oz. empty. ZEV also has a G43 size rig with the same specifications. Optic ready, forward slide serrations, night sights, under frame light rails. Interestingly both new models of Kahr and ZEV have been engineered to also take the SIG 365 magazines. The Springfield mags may also fit as I think it was designed to also use the GIG mags. That is interesting as the size and features, mag commonality are all becoming industry standards.

They are all a bit soulless, being striker fired poly-half rigs. But as tools they are truly Goldilocks pieces, just right on all counts. Just find the one you prefer. Some neat kit due out early this next year.

Zev OZ9sc (expensive for what it is) and Kahr X9 (should be reasonable on the street). Kahr's have horrible resale value so with everyone dumping the old ones for the latest and greatest look for some fantastic deals. A model for half price that only holds 7 shots vs 10! It may be several hundred dollars for that 3 extra shot privilege.

What does everyone think about the P365 that has the sights in the slide? Trech sights?

Dot sight. Was it Leupold? Some smaller diameter ultra low profile reflex electric dot. Some things are ahead of their time and pushed forward too soon or underdeveloped they bomb out.

the fact that they must be regulated for the 115 g ammo out there, I prefer the 147g stuff and I needed to replace both front sights with taller ones to get the POA back.
Other than that I carry two the standard 10 round compact and the 12 round XL frame. For a guy used to a revolver I find the longer stacking trigger on the striker fired pistol more to my liking.
For target work and precise shooting nothing beats a 1911, but to be honest I get more comfort out of 13+ rounds

from the SA Colt to the DA then much more compact slab sides semi-auto with more firepower. The Commander was a good idea, boy did that 1/2" make a difference. Then continued to be chopped and modded, fattened for capacity, de-calibered too. It's amazing how good it still is!

The little specific built platforms, mostly striker fired, are pretty amazing as well. They owe a lot to old grandad 1911 in design morphing. Hugely simplified and modular through evolution, influenced with technology and production designs. I really like the SIG and Glock for useful tools. The SIG trigger in particular is really good. But goodness, be mindful in handling it. The Glock is something you just have to practice with. I'm almost ready to try that $150 Timminey just to see. I had a ZEV unit on a G20 once that was grand. I keep a pile of those cheap used Kahrs with the buttery smooth DA only conventional trigger firing the striker, truly simple and innovative. I worry less carrying and handling them as they simply cannot be accidentally fired, someone will have to pull the trigger. The PM45 in particular fills a niche, much smaller than a Glock 30s, it can use a Colt Military spec. 1911 mag for back up. 8+1 that drops in your pocket and less than 20 oz. is not bad. I have a .40 Covert PM I carry a lot too, an abbreviated grip length for uber concealment. But they are not for everyone. The new 9X is so small few will have much handhold on it without the mag extensions.

Who wants a gun with no sights. Colt had a version of it that was horrible and flopped. AMT had their Back Up with the trench sights that flopped. There was a custom S&W model 39 years ago that again flopped. Several companies thru the years have put out a model with trench sights and I have yet to see one do well.
