Helping a fellow at work investigate his family heirloom
It can be traced back to use in the civil war. It’s a 20 bore that has obviously been reworked a bit. The back action has basic engraving, not fancy. I think those parts came from Europe. Possibly Belgium. Weight is maybe 5 lbs. The barrel is 1/3 octagon with a wedding ring transition, also a European tell. It might have been imported whole or parts for stateside manufacture. They told me they used to take apart smokeless 20 ga. shells and use the guts to fire it!!!! Egads!
It was interesting to have a good look at it.
