The first had a hardened forcing cone that was removable. If you burned out the forcing cone with superhot loads it was easy for the factory to replace. Paco still has his 454 that has that removable forcing cone. It was almost a short freebore like Gary's Maxi-Throat.
My 454 did not have chambers cut like that either. Like I said, Paco and I ran hundreds of rounds through our guns in 86 and 87 before we were able to get 454 brass. The first that we got was made by North American and used a Large primer. Later we got brass from Freedom that used a Small primer.
