Auto Rim in a 45 ACP Blackhawk

Yo Gary! Would you modify a 45 ACP Blackhawk cylinder to chamber 45 Auto Rim? Since the ACP headspaces on the case mouth will a little extra room in the back of the cylinder for the AR case head matter?

has a much thicker rim than normal, between .075 to .085 whereas the standard accepted rim thickness is around.055, so that extra rim thickness has to be dealt with somehow.

I don't have a 45 AR reamer as I don't remember ever having anyone ask for the 45 AR rechamber in the 45 ACP cylinder. If it was a new cylinder and we had the 45 AR reamer there would be no problem. I guess if I could find a 45 AR reamer we could remove that extra .030 to make room for the 45 AR cartridge headspace. But I don't think that afterward the 45 ACP would work in that situation. I may be wrong there as I don't remember having that situation crop up.

The length of the two cases is the same so I was thinking that the ACP headspaces on the mouth so the little bit of clearance for the AR rim won't matter. Let me cut the deal on the gun and we may have the opportunity to find out.:-)

exposed and it would allow the AR to clear at the recoil shield. I've never thought of that but it's probably legit. The revolvers that use moon clips also shoot AR and I've fired .45 ACP cases in them with no moon clips, you just have to use something to pull them out after firing. I used an empty case. I guess the drop in popularity of the .45 AR is the reason they don't just configure them that way.

Why not just trim the back of the cylinder about .030" to accomadate the thick AR rim? The ACP case is not supported by that part of the cylinder; the rim and extractor groove are just out in the open. I did this on my Blackhawk 45 ACP cylinder and it shoots AR and ACP just fine.
