i have a chance to buy a encore pistol in 22-250 it has a 15inch barrel is that long enough to burn all the powder? i have a friend who shoots a lot of 22-250 in ruger #1s .he doesn't think 15"is long enough to completely burn the powder .

The actual powder burn will be complete in just a few inches of bullet travel. The pressure, although will continue to increase as the bullet travels down the barrel up to a certain point. You will lose velocity in the 15" Encore barrel as compared to your friends Ruger #1. You're probably looking at 10-25 fps of velocity loss per inch of barrel reduction. Does it make a difference? Not really. At 300 yards the difference would probably be less than 1".

The cartridge is designed around a 55 gr. bullet and lighter. The "standard" rate of 1:14" actually works fine up to at least 60 gr. bullets. I know 5.56 rates run faster these days for 70+ gr. bullets. Actually twice as fast, 1:7". It sure slows the velocity down due to reduced capacity by OAL needs in mags. But for long range target work I understand, higher B.C. do not slow down with range, by comparison, and pass the shorter bullet at some point. I think myself, why not just use a .308 for that. But whatever floats your dingy.

and it did not effect the accuracy. It was a 1 in 12 twist rate, and worked fine. I had several "experts" tell me it would key-hole every bullet while other "experts" said it would eat up the barrel within 500 rounds. Both were wrong. The gun liked the 62 grain JSP bullets best.

cut the barrel to 18" for handgun hunting.
The 26" barrel ran a factory 55gr load at 3550 fps.
The 18" barrel ran the same 55gr load at 3250 fps, accuracy was not affected. The pistol load has worked fine on 1 hog and 1 turkey. In Texas you can shoot turkey with a centerfire cartridge in the fall deer season , mostly south and SW counties.
