I have been warned by many people numerous times to never send a .357 Maximum back to Ruger for any reason.
They will keep it; claiming "Recall & unsafe firearm" and offer you a replacement item up to and including the original list price of the Maximum.

If Ruger can do it, I'm sure you can figure out a way to keep the gun while still offering the owner "fair value" for the original list price of the base gun.
