Reeder Custom Guns - Just read a Taffin article on Ruger snubbies

I still have two SP101’s. A 4” 8-shot .22 and a 2-1/2” .357. Both are built like a brick, nice sidearms but in no way pocket guns. They weight more than a loaded Glock 19. I once shot a LCR in .38 Special, with .+P ammo no less. Horrifically brutal! I’d never let my wife or kid plink with one, and that hot ammo! Maybe one in .22 WMR or .327. That would be versatile.

I don’t like truly hammerless anything, just me. And now they make them with hammers. It’s just tough for me to see a premium price in something so ugly. For the same money one can have a wonderful vintage piece in high luster blue and real walnut grips.

Anyone have experience with the LCR line?

I have one. The last 7 or so years before I retired it was my backup. All departmental ammo was +P Hornady Critical Duty. Fun to shoot? Nope.
Fun on the qualification course? Double nope. But as a backup when things are going poorly and you need another chance to make it right, Yea. Light, empty it doesn't make a good paper weight. Easy to carry, nothing to snag. Yes a little pricey for what it is but it filled the bill. Now that I'm through with police work, I switched to the Ruger LCP in .380 as a second gun. Much smaller profile. The Mrs. adopted the LCR. I loaded it with 158 gr full wad cutters, pretty manageable. I wouldn't recommend the LCR unless it fit a particular niche in you carry routine

I ordered John's Small Bore book a bit ago and have been eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I think in the mean time I will pull his other books off the shelf and give each of them a well deserved re-read. Nothing better than sitting in the easy chair with a tasty beverage on the end table and a John Taffin book in your lap.

He told me he taught math primarily. I could see that. I sold him a cool Colt New Service .45 Colt once and had the very rare chance buying one of HIS guns! It was a TC Scout BP hunting pistol. He probably got it free, sold it at a very reasonable price and included his test article. Boy was it a turd! lol. The nipple was a very strange arrangement, they made a carbine as well. I know EVERYONE “should” wear shooting safety glasses to shoot period. But you shouldn’t have to wear a patch over an eye, pirate style for life, to gain the lesson. Gasses blew out the ample nipple, hit the enclosed nipple face, then the frame recess, then peppered your face good with gas and debris!

Maybe if I had a beard and cowboy hat it would have been less painful. TC dropped the design not long after introduction. A pity, as it only had like 4 moving parts. It looked cool and was modular.

Men of Mr. Taffin’s caliber are too quickly passing on. Who will fill their shoes?!

I’ve had 2 of the LCR 38s, and traded both off. As much as I really like the idea of a polymer frame married to a revolver, shooting one (for me) with a +P load is just downright uncomfortable. It’s what I believe it would feel like if I put my hand flat on a table, palm side up, and hit it repeatedly with a ball peen hammer. Maybe I really would be better suited just running a wadcutter for self-defense in the LCR. Now if I ran across another LCR at the right price, I would be tempted to snag it.

in 327 Federal and found much easier to control over 357 yet powerful enough for a carry gun.... :-) Will try to fit a Millett white line front sight for a Redhawk as its the only one with enough metal to fill the dovetail. We shall see ;-) [image]

I still seemed to shoot more .32 H&R and .32 Long through it. I also have an extra cylinder for my Reeder custom .300 GNR. It really gives versatility! I also have a 9” Encore (!) Pirate barrel in .327 given to me by a good friend! It’s really heavy but shoots fantastic.
