Of of the guys said he had NEVER actually seen a SEARS catalog before. This one was a special edition from the Memphis hub dating 1942. Now remember we were full in WWII and only old men and women were hanging around. The war effort was full on and money was tight. I think a fair wage was $25-50 a week. I think my Granny worked at the munitions plant in Jacksonville, AR and got about $20 a week. I remember seeing a stub once.

The things you could buy were impressive. Literally it was the mail order Wal-mart, Lowes, ACE, O'Rileys, all rolled into one. Plumbing fixtures and fittings, engine long blocks, Guitars, furniture, you name it. Literally about anything you might need for any purpose. I thought you might find it interesting a couple photos I took for you guys.

they are now 10 times what they were in 1942.

They have not gotten more expensive. That's how much our government has deteriorated the value of the dollar.

Most made in China with all sorts of plastic levers, triggers, sights. I have an original late 1960’s M95 Daisy like I had as a kid. All pressed steel. You spin the muzzle cap to expose a port hole that has a sliding steel cover. No safety and the lever can “bear trap” if you foolishly pull the trigger while cocking. I think they were around $10 back then, give or take a couple dollars.

My first Ithaca .410 single shot was $36 at the discount store “Gibsons” in 1970. About the same as a cool bicycle.

all that. It's true they do have plastic triggers and a safety ...unless you decide to work on them. :-)

The guns are actually cheaped out a bit.

I had one when I was a kid and remember
