A guy brought his .22 pistol to my Dad and asked him if he could clean it. The bore was so leaded it was squeezing out .17 caliber bullets!
Dad said, "No problem. Give me a couple days."
The gun was an old H&R break open. Dad hung it up in the shop and turned a torch on the barrel and then wiped out all the lead that didn't drip out. It was quick and easy. He didn't get it hot enough to hurt anything.
