I watched the Southern Cross most every night

And one night, while I was looking at the sky, I found the Big Dipper low on the horizon! It was so exciting .. like meeting an old friend. I think it was about 2 or 2 1/2 years after living there. We were about 1800 miles South of the Equator so it was only at certain times of the year when we could see the Big Dipper.

I loved being out in the bush a hundred miles from city lights. Here's a photo a friend took one night.
