If I think things have a good chance of getting really serious I like having the 1911 on me. The Star PD is close to that.
And often I have the little S&W .357 in my boot or in an ankle holster. There's a good chance I will end up on the ground and I want to be able to reach something easily and get it going without too much trouble.
Weight and size are only considered as a problem of where and how I wear it.
The Star PD is a big hole with a gun built around it!

I found one close to it I like a bit better. Less parts, buttons, thinner, lighter. I think lots safer to carry in condition one. The Kahr PM45, it even takes “military” spec 1911 mags.

Technically I replaced the beautiful Star PD I had with a Glock 30s. 10 shot and I don’t cry if I drop it. But I carry the lighter and smaller Kahr more. This week I’m using the P40 Covert that is about the same size as the PM45 but it has a shorter grip for pocket carry. I actually ordered it by accident. Thought I was getting the standard P40. The Covert is a more rare specialized piece, it will do. I wanted a small carry .40 cal. too.

Defender in 45acp they ran a magazine ad showing the gun and saying that it was pictured in actual size that surprised the heck out of me cause I only shot full size Government models and this was smaller....A lot smaller... And an aluminum frame only made it lighter....Here she is on top of a Commander that`s on top of full five incher... The Defender is one of my carries...![[image]](images/uploaded/20250429040926681050f61580d.jpg)

at outdoor range with young man and his full size target model having hard time with accuracy. He asked if I wanted to shoot and not wanting to hole up his target I aimed at about 3" rock at base of his 25yd stand. My shot rolled the rock and I handed Kimer back saying "that`s an accurate pistol".... It was one of my better days at the range but showed how good Kimber's were..........
Great discussion !I also have a Gary built PD but I’ve

glock g30 since somewhere around 2002-2003.i,ve tried several other option's over the years something smaller/lighter but they never felt right to me. and always went back to the g30 after trying something new. now when I'm out exploring the desert on my quads or side by side I prefer a revolver in 357,41 or 44 mag
