Most had the bores shot out but they functioned. I didn’t know the difference in .30 Mauser and 7.62x25 Tokarev. Dimensionally identical so I was in business. I did notice I was impressed with the power, and noted quite sharp recoil. I had a sound example of the C96 and smaller Bolo, both made in Germany by Mauser and shipped to China at the turn of the last century.
Later I found that I basically shot .357’s out of a .38, and lived to tell! The Tok ammo puts the bullet out some 400 fps faster than the .30 Mauser! The gun is a fascinating design of the short recoil principle. The only “screw” in the whole works is the one that holds the grips in place. Several shops back then specialized in re-boring the shot out barrels to 9mm Luger or relining the worn bore with a new rifled insert. If you can find an example so done it would be a fine shooter.
