I just finished John Taffin' Book of Small-Bore Six Guns etc.. I enjoyed your articles, they were very informative and interesting. I had never heard of the .224 Kay-Chuk and most of that probably went right over my noggin. The Cry of the Banshees chapter was great! Lots to think about there. Just wanted you to know that I very much enjoyed your writings. Hope to see you in October. Take care.

My mother had just passed, I got a cancer diagnosis, promoted, and sued. All in the span of a couple months. Then Mr. Taffin reached out to me with this big opportunity, duty if you will, to inform and represent. Of course at Gary’s urging. I was so flattered, while totally overloaded.
With God’s help I found it a wonderful diversion. Gary’s history goes back with Al Goerg. I felt a duty to present and preserve that information for another generation to discover. Gary’s Banshee cartridges are a useful evolution of Al’s ancient efforts in the pioneering days. His hunting partner was armed with an ultra hi-velocity .17 Centerfire to hunt big game, when both perished in the crash. I think that’s the correct story. Research me on that.
For several years I figured nothing would ever come of those two articles. It was a blessing how it all came into being. I sure hate Mr. Taffin’s passing. Before he passed I did send him a personal note of gratitude. I hope he received it. I thank God for the interactions with such good people. Make it to HHC if you can!

I've seen some of the guns at a fair price but I never
fired a .22 Jet. The .357 case tapered to .223" (not .224?). I thought there was something special about the bullet diameter, the .22 LR being .222". I have seen a H&R single shot rifle chambered (seemingly factory done) for the .22 Jet.
I actually shoot my old .22 KC ammo from my .22 K-Hornet Contender barrel. Gary made mine, but it's an easy matter to take an old .22 LR TC barrel and re-chamber it to any .22 centerfire you desire. Remember the less you move that brass the longer it will last. Also if you back off just a bit the primer pockets will last lots longer as well. I get pocket expansion if I use them too long or too hot. The primers are then too loose.
I played with the .224-32FA and it is a good one. BUT to Bob Baker's cringe I made brass from .32 H&R in one single pass FL sizing. For me anyway it worked fantastic. No case loss, no trimming, no fuss. I guess they are not as strong as .327 formed brass but I was losing too many to crumpled shoulders. Mr. Taffin concurred as well, it was a special trick to not lose some number of cases forming. It took finesse to make FA spec cases from .327 Federal. I did shoot a Muntjac at HHC with it. I had no issues with my H&R brass .224-32FA work.

224/327 FA..... Saw a handgunner shoot doe, at old YO, with that 5.7 from FN when they were new. Took 3 shots to lungs but he took her. That`s when I realized the 5.7 may be a good survival tool east of Mississippi...
