Reeder Custom Guns - I finally cast up a get to test. 295 gr.

I’m going to try them unsized, no lube in grooves, using an under fiber wad lubed with BP stuff. There will be a cardboard wad between the lube wad and powder. The object is to get 1200-1300 for with great accuracy and no leading.

I’m also trying very thinned out Alox coating with mineral spirits. Maybe some powder coating, but I think a waste of time. However in my bag of tricks just in case of leading.

Bowen Paradox, .451 squirted out a .430” bore. Looney stuff. (My .380 round for comparison)

Bowen and Seyfred didn’t want lube in the grooves as it got in the way of the flowing metal that displaced into the empty grooves. They also said it displaced forward, not rearward like one might think. It’s much like grooves machined into the solid copper projectiles. It has to have someplace to go, migrate.

Such an odd and curious shape projectile. Ended up very close to what they had sorted in 1880.

I also found the 241 gr. (Measured) semi-wadcutters in .45. The front portion is smaller than bore so it’s a place for that metal to migrate. I coated all of them (the lubed paradox slugs weighed 299 grs.). I thinned out the Alox about 50% with mineral spirits. It puts an almost .22 LR like coating on them. Dries fast too.
We’ll see if I’ve found some new tricks to apply to an old, very old idea. I’m still using the lubed under-wad.
