A guy at work bought three pistols at a police auction. One was a Kahr P9 with no mag. He gave $160 for it. Good deal but the mags are not cheap. Pro-mag is the only other besides factory. Kahr’s are not everyone’s cup of tea and they have terrible resale! The P9 is their mid-size, but still tiny 9x19, sporting fancier parts, upgrade sights, and a Walther polygonal rifled barrel. Plastic frame and alloy DA smooooooooth triggers. Basically a flattened fine tuned DA revolver! Capacity is the same as a 1911, 7+1, but literally half the weight of old slab sides. Plus it’s about the size of a Colt .32 Auto.

I already have a PM45, P40 Covert, and P380. I gave him $200, made him happy and a private transaction. My 40 Covert is a handful shooting 170 gr. at 1200 fps or 200 gr. (Cast bullets) at 1100. Dandy to carry but two fingers on the grip is exciting sometimes. I hoped to see if the lowers mic’d close and might interchange. I think they will fine on my particular examples. I figured a Covert P9 might fare better. Plus I pick up an extra round loading 9 in the 40 mags. I have measured things and the difference is within the difficulty of manipulating the tool. Still it needs some shooting tests. I’ve shot lots of 9 through .40 Glock mags, in fact I like how the rounds ride a tiny bit higher.

It’s not something I’d try to get others to replicate. But I hope it’s a little interesting. I’m not a huge .40 S&W fan but realistically it’s identical to a 1880’s Colt SAA in actual performance. But you can hide it in your pocket, and even forget you have it on you.
