What does anyone think about the 480R?

revolvers that I shoot mostly 480 Ruger in.Two Reeder customs plus a Freedom Arms. My favorite is Gary"s Ultimate Backup II. I am confident enough with it that I used it in qualification for my CCW PERMIT. I have also carried it twice in Alaska.

I have 2 475s and one 480. I typically only need 480 power loads. A 350gr at 1100 fps is plenty of power and not punishing at all. If you need more it certainly can do it. The 454 and the 460/500s outshine it for velocity and power but for practicality its only second to my 45 Colts.

A critter won’t complain. It fits a normal revolver frame and with the diameter increase the .475/325 gr. Has the same sectional density as a .44/265, which is great! It’s a hand loaders delight, my notion of perfect started and stopped with a home cast LEE 325 gr. FPGC. You can load it down to .45 Colt speeds or make it scream out at 1400 fps. Just depends on how bad you want to be. Perfect hog killer or for cast bullet shooting whitetail.

all the fun you expect from a 375 LB, loaded down with 300 to 325 cast or soft point, its as easy shooting as a 45. What's not to like. I know firsthand it has taken moose here in Idaho. Its much like Gary's 510 a truly versatile cartridge, but still powerful enough for anything here.
