A good while back I wanted a Kahr P40 and snapped up a seemingly great deal. When it came in I was shocked I actually bought a rare sub-model called the “Covert” which was basically a P40 upper and PM40 lower. But it is real compact. Perhaps too much for the 400+ ft./lbs it generates. The fast and light 155-165gr. Loads seem to help. My 200 gr. cast at 1000 fps is pretty rough in the 14-16 oz. rig. But it’s carry a lot, shoot a little.
I had a chance to later buy a P9 from a friend. It’s still small and light but easier to manage the four finger grip frame. Even with the Winchester 115 gr. hustling out at 1250 fps! By mixing the two (I don’t think they ever made a P9 Covert) I managed a happy option. The .40 handles lots better with the longer grip. The little 9 slides perfectly in my front pocket of the Dickies work slacks. I forget it’s even there.

As much as I love a snubby wheelgun, the 1” wide 7-shot 9mm serves my current needs better. Plus it provides .357 2” whack. I can go back .40 too. I went all .40 mags, even for the 9mm. Works fine, excepting I can’t get that extra round of the dedicated 9mm mags. Thought about trimming the bottoms of a follower to see, but it’s good.

My other experiment seems validated.
