I'm working on my .500 Nitro Encore barrel

Some fitting, fiddling to my frames. And figuring the forend. Last .470 I did, I used a "shotgun" forend and re-tapped the holes for the larger big head screws. I might not do that initially this time, hard to find the components. *Never use laminated furniture for these heavy kickers, I found that out! Tore it to shreds even with glass bedding.

I plan on shooting the crap out of it with .510 GNR / .500 Linebaugh pistol projectiles and Trail Boss. Lots of fun. However the BRASS! It's $5.50 each and I hate to wear it out plinking and load testing. However the .500/.416 brass is only $2 each. What's to keep me from blowing that out straight and using it for my .500x3" Nitro plinking fodder? Factory ammo (and rightfully so for African serious use) is nominally over $20 per round!

I have laminated wood on my 500NE Encore

The key is to bed the forend and the but with “Right Stuff” it is an automotive adhesive/sealant. It won’t damage the wood or metal or bluing. And will hold the forend on even with our the hardware! It can be removed with a single strand of the inner core strands of paracord. Just saw through the sealant by pulling it back and forth along the barrel from the front to the frame. The rest will come off with a thumb nail or plastic scraper. I have shot dozens of full house loads through my 6.5 lbs 500NE with no problems

Leave it to you to figure a way…

Ours broke the lamination layers at the forend screws. Those two or three layers of laminate gave away under recoil. I even Accra-glass beaded it. It minimized the cracking but it was not “glued” to the barrel. That floating put intense pressure at the screws running through the stock. I made and glassed in brass bushings for the screws to run through. That’s how I sold it with disclosure to the buyer. I thought I had it mitigated.

Once it is bedded to the barrel and you separate it once. Don’t remove the sealant from the forearm. It will have enough grip to keep it in place with the screws. The black color looks good too.
