Opening day was very windy. Saturday winds were gusting up to 40 mph, so nothing was moving. Tree stands were out of the question with such conditions.

One of the great things about hunting in Maine is that you can handgun hunt as well as hunt with suppressors.

A while back I had Gary thread a factory 10" 44 Magnum barrel for the Contender. I have a direct thread mount for a Silencerco Hybrid 46 M which also does double duty on an AR. I swapped endcaps for the caliber and mounted it.

At my little private range I am getting almost one hole groups at 50 yards with a Greendot sight by Ultradot( I know Gary hates electronic sights but here in the close range woods then are popular.)

Anyways. I sat in a good area where there is sign but other than some gray squirrels, nothing.

ON the way home on the side of the road I spotted several does feeding on the edge. It was on town owned land which by the way is open to hunting. There are a lot of niches when it comes to hunting in the northeast.

With a lot of opportunities. I’d love to hunt bear and moose there someday.

proposition so it could take many years.

I have been lucky in that I have had three moose permits in my life( actually four since the last one I donated to the Disabled Veterans in Maine) and all taken with a TC Contender handgun.

Deer hunting is unique in that in the northern half of the state you have big woods deer. That means deer that have never eaten any agricultural product like corn or soybeans.

Those deer are very hard to hunt.

Maine is one of the few states that allows hunting and trapping of black bear. Next year I plan to get my black bear endorsement and do both.

You surely are living the Life! I’m glad to see you enjoying some time hunting. I always love your adventures that you share. You have a natural joy of all things outdoors. I would love to hunt moose one day. My adventures are close to home but I still grab the ones I can! I do have a savings account that I add to monthly now for a trip to Africa. I hope that works out.

I hope you get a fat deer, and some wild mushrooms and enjoy them with some type of tea that you picked from the woods! Live it up!

I plan to post pics and stories of
