Still looking fo a .378 GNR Japanese Sika pic...
I was searching for a photo I could not find. My Y-O Sika, the darker phase one I took with the .378 GNR. My lighter phase Sika (Russian?) I took with the 7mm GNR and 120 gr. Noslers. I was sick the year I took that nice 8-pt. “cull” Whitetail, I didn’t want to mess around so I just clobbered it with my .378 Encore and 270 gr. Hornady SP. You can see the exit. Didn’t mess up much meat, just bang and done. Maybe two hops. I’ve not taken lots of game with the .378, but that Sika, a Whitetail, and an expensive Red Stag. Of late Doug and I have preserved Gary’s .378 that he used in Africa on a couple of trips. The old Burris has been swapped for a newer Leupold but it’s a fantastic rig. You can identify it from Gary’s photos in his book and load manuals by the unusual reverse taper at the muzzle brake. Possibly a one off, style feature.
I ordered an early FA2008 and had Gary re-chamber it to .378. It recoils something fierce but is very accurate. Honestly the Encore is likely a better fit, it has more dampening weight.
