Mare’s Leg Idea

I never fell in love with the lever action “handgun” called the Mare’s leg by some after the legendary Steve McQueen weapon. Others have named it the Ranch Hand. But I do like the idea of a SBR lever action. With the tax for SBR now gone a person could source a rifle stock to replace the rear grip on the Mare’s leg (while following through with the still in tact FFL laws of course) and have a fairly simple conversion! It would be a handy piece for sure.

Hang on a minute

Now there are things that I'm not up to all the time. With my health problems I am stuck here in the house most of the time other than taking my wife out to a nice place to eat once a week so I hadn't heard that the $200 or whatever it is for the class 3 items had been dropped.
I hope it has and that I just slept thru it. I had heard that the $200 was the only thing stopping the Pres from dropping the whole thing, that the Feds wanted to drop the Class 3 paperwork but wanted to keep the $200 fee. Somebody fill me in here.

The tax for SBRs and Suppressors is $0.0 as of 1 January. All other rules, paperwork and restrictions remain.

Thanks Brian. I appreciate that.

Part of the problem is still here. For a dealer to take on

this situation means paying $1500 per year for the dealer class 3 license. The person buying the gun doesn't shell out a lot of money but a gun shop that is not already a class 3 dealer he has to pay the $1500 per year for his dealer's license could pose a problem.

At least that is how I understand the new ruling.

I think your way out over your skies on this

If I recall correctly the Ranch Hand that is being sold is manufactured and marketed as a pistol. So I think buying a rifle and modifying it would still get you in big trouble with the Feds.
I could be wrong, but that is the way I remember it.

I hear what you are saying

But I wouldn’t do anything without it being right by the law 1st. Definitely would search out the info. In the very least you still have to do all the legal paperwork and background checks.
