"an accurate rifle in the dry will shoot high in the rain". Anyone ever hear of that? What is the physics?

at Whittington I was with some friends who were shooting some old big bore British rifles. Shooting some targets at 600 yards or so, there was a rain squall between us and the targets moving through. Shooting through the rain changed the point of impact quite a bit.
