I tend to agree with you re: the taper and wall thickness.
Below are the drawings for a set of reamers that I had Manson make me. They were to allow me to ream a spare 686 cylinder to 10mm magnum for my 686 and also use 30-30 brass with its extra thick rim as a sort of 10mm magnum auto rim.
