Hello All. An old image

I posted this image years ago and felt the need to repost this.

The image is of my grandfather( the man on the farthest left) and his friends after a successful Massachusetts deer hunt. For over one hundred years, the state has been a shotgun only state. I am guessing the image is sometime around the 1930's or 40's. Everyone dressed up a little to go out. In those days, the season was a week to two weeks long, the first full Monday in December with no Sunday hunting.

My grandfather has a double barreled shotgun with some kind of home made front sight.

From time to time I get a tinge of nostalgia. I do believe I need to reach out to some friends and see if this season we do a deer hunt together. [image]

Cool pic. Why shotguns only?!

Iowa does I believe. On the East Coast I believe that is the case also in places.

Massachusetts as well.

on the Ft. Campbell base with a couple of military friends and it was shot with slug only. I had a 20 gauge Winchester model 12 pump as my shotgun.

Mass has been shotgun only since 1910

The state has some odd laws. You cannot hunt whitetail deer during the modern firearms season with anything but a shotgun and slugs/buckshot, muzzleloader or archery. Must wear 500 square inches of hunter orange. No Sunday hunting. Also, you cannot be in possession of a handgun unless law enforcement while deer hunting. Stupid.

Looks like 3 hunters have SXS’s very cool

The photos are framed behind glass so it’s hard to get a good picture. Granddad always used a Sxs , grandma used a pump or single shot.

The car is an inline 12 cylinder Frankland. It was uncommon for women to hunt in those days. But my grand parents did a lot for duck hunting and trout fishing and camping together.

Wow! That car cost more than a house.

Just taking a photograph was a huge deal back then. Every image worthy of framing. Fantastic artifact.

In pic one Grandma's gun appears to have about a 40 inch

gun from what I can tell. Very slim so apparently no double or pump and doesn't appear to be wide enough for a bolt gun so what is it?

Resizing it up looks like break open single shot
