This is my new improved burn pit for stumps and branches. I buried a 20 ft long 12 inch culvert in the bottom of the pit. The pit is on a hill so the other end comes off the hill. I was worried the fire would melt the culvert in the pit so I made a 500 lb concrete cap with a grate attached to both ends to keep embers and critters out.

Burning season just closed. I will have to wait until October to test it.

Better pic, I get it now. A burn pit. Good show.

Everyone around here keeps a “burn pile”. I have several. Usually full of snakes and varmints by the time you get around to torching it. Makes for quite a sport. Never know when a man might need to burn something. I love living out in the country.

My project this summer is rebuilding our deck. The cost is astonishing, compared to 2004 when I first contracted it. First year of “yella-wood” treated with formaldehyde rather than wonderful arsenic (which actually preserved wood). I put hundreds of gallons of Thompson water seal trying to save it. Last decade has been a loosing battle. Total rework, deck boards are a composite. Thirty-year warranty, that should do me….

You will need a respirator when you cut that stuff!

Interestingly it is made to order, every board. $7 a foot.

I hired a well seasoned Carpenter friend to manage the chores. I work full time and fix things in my spare time. lol. It’s 20x30’ like the old one. Factory rails this time too. I’m sick of the sorry treated lumber. It’s only used for the foundation. Even synthetic skirting on the sides. My wife is strawboss on this project, I just feed the monkey. Tearing the old one apart to make room was horrific.

We used to really enjoy the deck. I have a good 200 meters I can shoot off of it.

I’m envious!
