Finally mounted my Red Stag on the cottage wall

It took two of us and two ladders. The worst piece of taxidermy I’ve ever invested in. But after a second patch and touch up it’s not bad from 10 ft. The guy even kept the ivory teeth he was to give me.

I shot it in MO several years back with the generosity of a friend (and about $3k). It was on a 400 acre game reserve and had outlived its breeding age. Very dominant though, it broke a horn off in the ass of any young buck foolish enough to test him. (Hence his scraggly antlers) The fellow cut me a special deal. I took it at a little over 100 yds. neeling and resting the forend. It was my GNR custom .378 FA2008. I was shooting 260 gr. Accu-bonds at 2300 fps. Two rounds put it down for good. I did give a finisher through the heart. I personally ate him, nose to tail. All ground meat, like ground sirloin steak. Better than normal Elk. Even though he was old.

It is an exceedingly accurate platform but has horrendous recoil. The Encore takes no back seat to it.
