What Not To Do In Yellowstone Park

A grandfather was seriously injured and hospitalized in critical condition after a bull bison charged him and tossed him 8 feet into the air at the Bridge Bay Campground in Yellowstone National Park. The violent attack was triggered when a passing truck agitated the bison, causing it to charge the man and his grandson.

The Attack Details
The 65-year-old victim and his grandson were walking through the campground. Witnesses noted they were keeping a safe and respectful distance from the large bull bison. However, the animal had already been acting aggressively, charging at a group of children and a passing white pickup truck. After the truck drove off, the agitated bison shifted its attention to the grandfather and grandson. The grandson managed to dart away, but the bison caught the grandfather, hooked him with its left horn near the hip, and threw him into the air. 

The Rescue and Injuries
Following the flip, the bison stood over the injured man. Bystanders—including professional photographer Mike Macleod who captured the video—ran at the animal, jumping and shouting to distract it so the man could be safely reached. 

Emergency crews responded quickly, and the man was taken to a local hospital where he was treated for serious internal injuries, including a broken hip. According to updates from the victim's grandson, the man was left with "pretty significant injuries" and remained in critical condition.
