Going thru some different cartridgs for the
HHC. I don't know if I will be able to hunt this year. This shingles is really kicking my butt. It has progressed into the effects of encephalitis and I have no vision in my right eye and am fighting other problems associated with it. I figure maybe pick out one of my new cartridges or one that would be good for close range hogs.
Recently I picked up a new Auto Mag 3 in 30 carbine and thought maybe at close range the 110 grain cartridge might be enough but after seeing hogs take 5 or 6 heavy duty cartridges and still be on their feet, that changed my mind somewhat.
This would be a chance to try out a cartridge that I haven't used on a big hog....maybe.
Right now I have zero vision in my right eye. My Doc says the vision "might" come back enough for some close up shooting, but I think he is smoking some dope. I have 3 months to get some vision back and feel comfy with a big hog at ass biting range. But I have spent 6 months already with very little improvement. The doc keeps mumbling something about drilling a small hole over my right eye for some obscure reason. I have let him know it will be a cold day in day in Ubangiville when that happens.
Anyway, any suggestions on a possible close up cartridge for Stevie Wonder for a big hog would be appreciated.

No shame in using a “red dot” on a wheelgun.
Semi-autos for hunting have always been tricky. Some good platforms, just gone the wayside. You’ve earned your senior position, no shame in scaling down some in recoil. The brutality of mega-boomers is tough for arthritic hands to hang onto. Even the .429 GNR is a handful at full power.
Did you ever build yourself a .401 GNR? A fantastic round, coupled with an extra 10mm or .40 cylinder it’s the epitome of versatile. Still, a 200 gr. .400 bullet has the ballistic coefficient of a 250-275 gr. larger bore. Speed is magnum range, and recoil is between a .357 and .44 mag. It’s a dandy idea, neck down the super common and strong .44 case. I think a dot might be a better ticket than a magnifying optic. I’m starting to toy with them. Randy and James have been running them on wheel guns for years.

A 4-3/4” .401 GNR SA with that new grip frame set up for a red dot might be the ultimate aging wheelgun for hunting. Set it up for holster use, good to go! My #6 is a 6” but I could probably make an adapter plate to convert to a common dot platform.
