the S&W 317 .22 Long Rifle is a good choice. It doesn't weigh anything even fully loaded. 7 shots. And is kind of reminiscent of the first S&W cartridge revolver.

Some will cry "CALIBER" but 2 or 3 shots to the sinus cavities will deter most anything, even with a .22.

. . . someone pointing this out. Way too many "experts" pooh-pooh the .22LR as a defensive round, but few volunteer to be a test subject. :-D

I have a 2" 34-1 that fills the bill nicely.

The S&W Model 1 first produced in 1857. This was not a military weapon but was sold to the civilian market for self defense. It held 7 rounds of .22 Short. (The Long Rifle had not yet been invented.)

It didn't have much power but no one wanted to be shot with one.

From a short revolver they run about 600 fps. Good pellet gun performance for the 29 gr. I bet it would really hurt! I know of accidents where folks succumbed to pellet gun shootings. But is admittedly is pretty unlikely and rare.

Lots of folks carry those tiny little NA Arms .22 Mags. Those run 800-900 fps for the 45 gr.

the Airweight version. I'm not sure he even fired it but he sure did cherish it.Passed some 20 yrs. ago. I hope one of my cousins still have it.

Adjustable sights. I cannot believe how accurate it is. Truly amazing, particularly in my hands. :-D

I shoot it and it seems laser-guided.

I've had a few like that ... and still have them. Sadly, the older I've gotten the less "guided" the shots have been. But it ain't the gun's fault.
