All this past week, I’ve been a couple blocks away.

At a water manager’s conference. Ft. Smith, AR stomping grounds of cowboy Bass and judge Parker. Real life figures that inspired the book True Grit. The gallows are still there. You can walk right up, even stand under where a good number of people ended this life. The little sign on the steps reminds one to have some respect for the structure, acknowledge it for what it is “an instrument of justice”. Very humbling.
