Time is flying by..

They took a metal large coffee can and 10lb. bag of normal sugar. Under a can of Sterno the rendered the entire 10 lbs. into a black strap molasses looking candy into the bottom of the can. No stirring, nothing, just cooking it down. It smelled like cotton candy at the fair.

George said no need to tie it down or anything. Bears would find it and chew, lick it, eat the can too eventually. It always stayed around the bait. We had a candy pop as a kid like that, “Brown Cow”. Took you a week to eat it down, for 10 cents. Great times inducing cavities back in the blissful days. We actually had an adolescent Grizz come in on us while we were making one up in the stand with us!

You never know who is looking in your cabin window. This was last month in the southern tier of NY.

To investigate down wind of you. I did some calling when I lived in Colorado.
Call in a couple of them. The first one I never saw. Didn’t even know it was there. I called for almost an hour then headed up the mountain farther. Came across a dirt road that I was unaware of and found a set of good size Bear tracks. The road was fairly soft and the tracks easily enough to fallow, looked very fresh. This was early morning and a bit cold in the fall at around 6000 ft
I tracked them for only about 30 yards and came on a 4 wheeler trail that headed back down the mountain. I picked up the tracks heading down the trail and came to a stop where I could see the bear stud there for a while moving back and forth side to side. I looked up and all around and realized the place I was calling from was about 25 yards away! That was my first lesson in bear hunting by calling. I tuck a black bear in Alaska so 12 years prior but that was more of an opportunistic rifle hunt for meat for the cabin. In Colorado I was hunting with my new Reeder Long Colt Hunter Revolver.
