Case has his .450 KNR for the Ruger No. 1. A fantastic cartridge idea. The .470 3-1/4” necked to .458”.

I need .500 NE 3” cases. I can go about making them from this readily available .416/500 NE. I can trim to 3” and expand. Maybe blow out as a blank then trim. But what an ear shattering violent use of bunches of pistol powder! I’ll tinker with it. I like the looks of the big, rimmed, .416! There are several larger caliber sporting rounds that did not get much press. The .370 Sako, .400 H&H, and this .416, just to name a few. A bit much for the high B.C. .22 and 6.5mm crew. lol. But when you need a big hit, you need it.

I quickly found the LEE collet case holder was never intended to house humongous 0.650” rims. Well….it is a lathe. So with Dick Lee readjusting in his eternal garden, I adjusted the limits of the mass marketed engineering. Slaloming on the glass now!

I decided to try trimming to 3” and ball expanding first. A trial (5). Looks to be nice resilient thick and long lasting brass.

I think that you have inadvertently recreated the 416 Krighoff Waterboy

I’m just trying to make .500 NE cases on the cheap

It does look like a lovely case. 3” or 3.25” wouldn’t make a lot of ballistic difference. Fantastic in the Ruger No.1 for a .416 cal. It’s got to have a rim for me on the falling block or break open actions.

.500 NE ammo is over $200 per (20)!
