Passed away yesterday, August 27. I had been trying to contact James for approximately six weeks to two months with no success. I called his home number this evening and his sisters advised me of his death. There will be no service and his body will be cremated. I was lucky enough to spend quite a bit of time shooting and traveling with James down to the HHC. He was one of a kind and will never ever be duplicated again. He loved handgun hunting, and the people that went along with it. Please keep James, his sisters, and brother in your prayers. He was an encyclopedia of handgun hunting.
Those of you who didn’t know, James had a female black and tan hound and his sisters are looking for a good home for her. She is approximately four years old and is very loving. She stayed at our home on a couple different occasions and she was no trouble at all. please reach out to me at 570-401-3028. If you know anybody who might be interested, thank you.!

I am sorry to hear this. Prayer for the family.

we lost John Taffin. James was always a good friend, and he never complained about anything. He seemed to take his recent surgery a bit harder than normal. I tried to get in touch with him several times but never could. I started giving him the nick name "James From Jersey" a year or two ago at one of the HHCs.
James my friend, I will miss you.

Aoudad hunting with 41 GNR

He was using white tape to bandage up his bloody hands! I started a conversation and we talked quite a bit. He was after Aoudad and cut up his hands badly in recoil with his FA83 in .454. He borrowed Andy Rowe's Scoped Reeder Bisley Hunter in .41 GNR and got his trophy. (which I sold to Andy and actually bought back! Still got it.) It was not without some drama but what a memorable time. He shot low and hit it in the leg, but it bled out pretty quickly. A really old and sneaky Aoudad.[image]

He had gotten rid of a lot of his magazines and odd nick-knacks. I received some. But I'm certain he never sold his Grover SA, surely. I hope his sisters don't just throw away all the really unique correspondence and pawn his guns for $500 or something. They can garner a lot for the family, I hope someone helps them sort it all.

The handgun hunting community lost a good one. He was definitely one guy that after you met him, you would never forget him. I spoke with him earlier this summer and he was planning to come to our Tennessee hunt this October if at all possible. RIP James.

That’s awful. I met him at a couple of HHCs. Will miss him.

I was fortunate enough to meet him at the 2016 HHC. Man, he did it all, from Africa to Maine many times over. Certainly one of the biggest handgun hunting zealots. I know he'd hunted Tioga in PA a few times and last November I asked him if he was interested in that again but his health wasn't up to it. Godspeed James...

We are diminished

I never met James or any other Mifit face to face besides Gary but the photo of James with his Audad taken with a .41 magnum has long been a favorite and inspired me to hunt with my revolvers as often as I could. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and to you misfits who had the good fortune to hunt with him and call him friend.
