Not sure what’s wrong with me, hopeless optimism.

I found a guy with 135 pcs. of Hornady .500 N.E. Brass. Only problem is it looked like it had been laying in a gravel drive of a popular shooting range, for some time?!! But I worked a deal for like $1.25 each delivered, figuring I could cut my losses. But it won’t be EASY!

No matter how ugly and misformed the sides and mouths may look, it might size, blow out, or take re-annealing. It’s the rims that foul the show. Not bit off chunks, but curled over. I went through less than half. Got (40) maybe cases to try and fix. (20) or more will require some ginger work to get the rims workable even for plinking. But it is possible.

It’s sort of like finding a sack of kittens on the creek bank. Some you might save, others a lost cause. A dim sad circumstance at first for sure. But this stuff is really expensive and hard to just get anyway. I’ll see what I can do…

I got (71) cases with perfect rims. Workable.

I can probably save 75% of those, surely. The others with dinked rims maybe half I can restore. The rest I might have to get creative but I do have a lathe. I’ll split them into useable and plinking brass, see how many are totally gone.

They will need to be sized, blown out, trimmed, and annealed. But that’s fun too.

A box of (20) Hornady empty brass lists for $125!

Well, if anyone can make lemonade, you can!!!

going to fire the finished product in a contender type platform, does missing part of the extractor rim matter ?
turn it around so the good rim section is under the extractor when you load the gun. I mean I think I could fire one like that in a bolt or double gun ? I'm talking light practice stuff here , save the good stuff for hunting

That is a mess.
