It’s a strange process, not telling anyone to do do it but…

Just for informational purposes. I don’t understand it completely. I finally called an online business I wanted to buy a suppressor from. Not telling the name.

Nice guy. The model I wanted was normally $700 on sale for $595. I bought it online with an added accessory cap to fit 5.56 and 9mm ($100 extra). They also threw in a T-shirt. I asked about extra end caps with smaller holes. The guy waved me off ($200 less sale), said it would be so little difference I’d likely not want them. Plus getting stupid mixing them to blow the end off. Nice folks.

The process is they send me n e-link to upload my state CCL which has a photo of my face on it. I complete another form online for the 4473. They submit the notification to the local County Sheriff (state law I think) and when that notification receipt comes back they ship to my door. Adult signature required. WOW! It’s not quite 1968 again, but I kind of like it. I think AR state law requires it to go through a Class 3 dealer. They are, so this is an acceptable process. We’ll see in 3 weeks.

So ... you bought across state lines?

Is that right? Ifn I understand correctly. If so, then that's interesting. Why your CC permit and not your DL? If you're in a open carry state, one might not have a pistol-permit. Just curious.

I’m not sure how it all works, but the company

Is in the northern mid-west, and has a legal staff. My state has an enhanced CCL program where I was fingerprinted and FBI vetted, took the same shooting course as the State Police. I can literally carry concealed in the state capital and see the Gov. (I’m to see her next Thursday on business. BTW) I’m not sure if the Enhanced holders are handled differently than standard CCL. AR you can now carry without a CCL, even concealed.

This company is one of the national leaders and has made videos trying to keep everyone informed. They said federal relaxing does not negate individual or local laws. He mentioned AR was a very suppressor friendly state.

He is correct about the end caps.

Switching to caliber specific end caps only makes about 1 - 2 decibels difference in noise reduction. It takes a minimum of 3 -4 decibels before the human ear can detect the difference. Caliber specific end caps are a waste of money.

I would not have thought that…

During Vietnam they had a covert model with a rubber washer for an end that wore out. Maybe in that application every decibel counted.

At HHC several years ago we shot your AR-9 carbine with 147’s. What can do you think we were shooting? I wanted a rig like yours but got it too short (4”). I had to re-do a barrel and got one 7-1/2” both threaded AND 3-prong MP-5 style. But that long tube might bump up to supersonic, I can adjust that.

I sold my Ruger American in .300, just not as interesting to me. I’m interested in one in either .204 or an 8.6/.338 cal./platform. My African plains rifle is a .338 Win. and it’s already threaded. Hopefully for 5/8-24. It’s a removable brake blended into the contour. A defunct custom company from up north built it 20-25 yrs. ago.

It was the Hybrid 46
