My .240 GNR varmint house rig. I was having problems with critters at night around the chicken house. The Coyotes or Bobcat was too elusive for me. But I was ready. I used 105 gr. bullets at HHC once planning for possible hog with the small caliber but later found the 85 gr. was a much better all round bullet for it. It affords higher velocity and a bit flatter trajectory if you needed it.

My .338 GNR Encore hunting rig. I used it at the Y-O for Blackbuck. (sucessfully - Doug too) The 200 gr. Hornady more conventional (and cheaper) bullets were giving me 100% expansion in the backstop with 2600 fps. Very thick jackets for smaller game use. It's still a dandy caliber.

John Ramsey Miller, the novelist, who tried his hand at a little Buffalo shooting with his Black Widow .410 GNR revolver. I think he had a 2X Burris on it. They had a deal at HHC one year for a yearling at $995 all inclusive. John took a high lung shot with a 255 gr. cast solid and was surprised that it didn't just fall over. We chased it for a while, mortally wounded of course, but those lungs are big. He shot it a couple times more too. The bullets shot through so fast it looked like he was missing. Debris flying up 50 yds. beyond after shooting right through. Placement, placement, placement. Perhaps a good jacketed bullet would have been a better choice, but he didn't know how big a buffalo. Gary advised a neck shot, JRM was trying to break down a shoulder and went high. Guide's advice.

Where's the action pic of the 440 GNR.

I think I have one video on my Youtube channel "Waterboyark". Not much.

.440 compared to .429 GNR loads, about a 400 fps advantage.

Three hammered copper hacket SP 300 gr. @ 2300 fps. A 300 Gr. JHP and .45 ball slug for reference.

Some totally destroyed 265 gr. Hornady's

My kit and a couple jackets turned wrong side out.

Blank fireformed cases using AA#7 in .348 cases. Trim about 1/10" and done.

Custom Grizzly safety loads. Paper patched .430"/.416-400 gr. loaded to 1900 fps.

I'm trying to decide on 440 or 450. I'm

more of a 44 fan than 458 fan. I think 450 (458) offers better bullet diversity though.

Clearly don't have the stones for the latest Nitro offerings. I didn't enjoy bench shooting a 7 Mag and 3+ boxes of shells for a moose hunt. Grin and bear it saying it's a bucket list hunt. I suppose Africa would be a bucket list hunt too but ...,,,

.458 starts at 300 gr. bullets....

I can attest you don't want much of 450 gr. and higher bullets so it's actually a bit less versatile than you think. Surprisingly the .475 GNR has it beat with all the .475 LB pistol bullets. The .416 is a specialty number and if Firman had not done in an Ele with one I'd probably not have one either. My "Bill Firman" replica. But I do have a 340 and 395 gr. cast mould for it.

The .440 gr. is a winner, beating a .444 Marlin rifle. It can shoot from 180 gr. to well, .400 gr., with some work. I never have sized down the 410 gr. 425 Westley Richards slugs for it.

The .476 is scary sounding but a good one too, just a bit more looping trajectory. I have a ball shooting .476/325 gr. cast and Trail Boss.

My typing....476 GNR has it beat...(not .475 GNR)

Brass as the parent, which I have plenty of. Finding a 14" or 15" tube in .475" dia might present an issue.

Yeah that is good too. The .475 LB was

originally made from .45-70 brass then they turned the rims off to clear pawl gear on the back of a 5-shot cylinder. The .476 on the .348 case is quite a bit bigger capacity! You can make .510 GNR cases from the .348 too. I've done it on cases I messed up.

Always enjoy your posts. Thanks Scotty!

I have trouble finding anything so I like to "mark" things with it. That also gives me access to good tape if I ever need it around flashlights, Binos, or even Bic Lighters.
