But, I like this old cartridge so well, I have to do it.

Just got my latest Handloader Magazine in the mail.

Lots more 44 Special +P loading data including some of my favorite new powders. So funny how this fine cartridge and the 45 Colt just keeps on competing with the modern stuff.

Still won't say which is best...

nah, the 44 Special and 45 Long Colt are our two best

sellers. I probably load 500 rounds of them a week for our test firing. And most I load are what I call a +P load, not quite a 44 mag but hotter than the old 44 Special. We don't do any custom work to speak of on the old Colts and most guns are Rugers so they will handle the +P loads easily.

I've really grown fond of Longshot powder...

Tite group is fantastic with 240gr bullets from 800-1250fps.
8.0 gives you very mild and clean shooting.
Gary, if you still have that OBP 242/Tite group I gave you a couple of years ago, give it a try
