and the one inch tube has 506.71 mm^2 area through the tube. Light gathering is a function of the objective and its lens coatings to match up the transfer function from ambient to the internal lens of the tube. Basically, whichever looks best to your eye. Lots of technoBS about this subject but the 30mm does have a noticeably better light gathering capability at least in my Burris 30 mm vs my Burris one inch tubes. Just my observation and that and $1 might get you a super bowl ticket.....
