Simmons 6x for cheap when they were discounted. I have them on a 25-06, 308 Norma, 338-06, 308 Win, 375 H&H and 30-06. Never had an issue and have made lots of shots over 250+ yards. And have several 4x scopes of various flavors. I prefer the fixed to the adjustable myself. Twice I've had friends shoot a HUGE deer only to find out the scope was on 9-12x and they shot a fawn. Also had one that the scope was frozen(it was COLD) and he couldn't adjust down the power for a 50 yard shot. The critter ran away I was laughing so hard.

Another question, is a 3x9 or 4x12 scope better for a 308? (nm)

Depends on the gun and what you do with it.
