Was at the LGS today looking for a donor gun for a 30 GNR lever gun (no luck yet) and there were three guys touting the 6.5 Creedmore shooting flat to 1,000 yards. I suggested they look at some ballistics tables that would show them otherwise but they had it on verified authority I was wrong. I told them I would bet any amount of money they wanted with the minimum being a grand that if they put a simple duplex scope of any brand and power they wanted on the 6.5 they were buying and sighted it in at 100 yards they would not be able to hit a 10" plate at a thousand yards in 10 shots. I am waiting on them to take me up on it. A grand will cover half of my next Reeder purchase!
I realize there is a real anti 6.5 Creedmoor movement...

On here. But, I've found life nice minding my business and letting others do the same.
It seems anything that doesn't do well is slammed for being a failure. Anything successful is slammed for whatever can be thought up.

did not mean to imply such. Just have an issue with ignorant sniper wannabes. If they want to do long range shooting just get proper training and quit talking ignorantly. Better yet enlist in the military and put the learned skill to good use. I would not object to having a 6.5 in my arsenal but don't have access to a range long enough to shoot 1,000 + yards. And then I would just be shooting paper targets or silhouettes. I love long range guns of many calibers but realize that all bullets have an arc of trajectory. There's nothing in Alabama to hunt at 1,000 plus yards. I am a military trained marksman.

I own a 550 yard range. Talk is cheap. It is not as easy as people think it is. I built that range with a tractor and a scraper in 1972. I have shoot some great cartridges and not so great. More important than the cartridge, is the monkey behind the trigger.

The monkey needs a lot of training and practice. That's why we went to the range so much in basic training and AIT. Hitting man size silhouette targets at 500 yards with peep sights took training and a modicum of skill. Some trainees had more problem than others. everywhere we went around the company grounds, PT field and barracks there were "sight pictures" for various yardages. They showed approximately where to hold the sights on a man at 100, 200, 300 yards etc for center mass hits with a M16 sighted in at 100 yards.Then we moved up to the M21, another game altogether. Then the yardage was much longer. But with both rifles we had to allow for bullet drop after the first 100 yards. Also the 6.5 Swede is an intriguing round to me. Wouldn't mind adding one to my arsenal.

have a special purpose built long range rifle built in it. I like the 6.5CM and it is inherently accurate, like the 308 Win and 300 Win mag are. Both won their fair share of matches, 600 and 1000 yards. I like the extra power of the 6.5x284, especially when it is built on a long action to take advantage of the long 6.5 142gr bullets. Yes, arcing trajectory but much less than many LR cartridges.

on the internet that tick me off. I have seen their "flat shooting to 800 yards" a couple of times and that is what turns me against the whole thing. Just like the new 224 Valkyrie cartridge. Every ad I have seen keeps throwing in "1300 yards" as if it shoots flat to that point. We have a whole group of young idiots buying these guns that know nothing about ballistics. Blatant ignorance burns my ass.
None of this is new. The internet probably makes it....

But, the reality is we all had to learn over time too. Most of these posts include "young." Granted, it's been a while, but we were all young too.
We claim to want young shooters. But, that seems to be only if they follow our lead exactly. We'll tell them which guns, calibers, scopes, ranges, etc.
I remember when I started shooting TCs. The older generation bashed me for wasting my money on such junk.
Most of this will fall on deaf ears and I'm probably wasting my KBs.
