I am interested in the positive performance pkg for my SBH Hunter.
What exactly is the maxi throat?
Does the positive performance pkg include setting the B/C gap at .002"
By revolver is a .41 Hunter I may like to have it re-chambered to .41 GNR as well.
There may be a few other operations I'd like done. But if you could give me an estimate and explain whatever other info I need to know, we'll start there.
Thanks
the Positive Performance Package consists of 3 things

it is first a full action job, then the Maxi Throat and finally the Deep Dish Crown. These 3 things will, in most cases, cut your groups in half. The action job smooths out the hammer and trigger pull, making it crisp and lighter than factory. The Maxi Throat puts a funnel in the rear of the barrel, easing the bullet into the rifling rather than it hitting the sharp edges of the rifling and distorting the bullet. This also dampens the existing pressure of the round by a couple thousand. The throat of the barrel is the first thing the bullet touches so it has to be smooth and concentric for any decent accuracy. The Deep Dish Crown is the last thing the bullet touches so it has to be smooth also and again concentric, with no jagged edges of the rifling to tilt the bullet to one side.
The PPP does not include changing the barrel/cylinder gap. That, in most cases, is from .006 to .012 from the factory although I have seen it as much as .020. A barrel/cylinder gap over 6 to 7 thou causes lots of problems. You lose anywhere from 225 to 265 fps plus in the larger gaps the gun tends to spit sending unburned powder to the sides and often back in the shooters face. We set the gap to .002 which helps in velocity and no spitting. That is normally $150 in most cases.
That'd make a real nice rig my friend...

410GNR, 455GNR and 44 Rem Mag. All are just awesome. The best pure hunting revolver platform going in my opinion. The 410GNR Bisley Hunter is my favorite though. Also had Gary build me a Redhawk Stealth-Hawk in 410GNR and a Redhawk Nighthawk in 44mag on the Redhawk Hunter platform.
Gary did those exact mods to a 41 Hunter of mine
